GMC Introduces Its New Hummer EV

GMC recently introduced its first all-electric vehicle, the Hummer EV pickup truck. The highly anticipated Hummer EV offers promising figures in power and range, as well as off-road capabilities. Let's take a quick look at what it's all about.

First of all, it should be noted that the model will arrive in Canada in the fall of 2021 and that three versions are currently promised; Hummer EV2, Hummer EV2X, as well as Hummer EV3X. The range will vary from one to the other to reach over 560 with the most competent. The same goes for power, which will be 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque with the 3X version.

As for the base variant power, it is still 647 horsepower and 7400 pound-feet of torque. At worst, the range will be 400 kilometers. That's promising.

During the video presentation of the vehicle, however, it's some of its capabilities that caught the attention. One of them is a mode called Crabwalk that allows the Hummer EV to move diagonally. This is possible thanks to a rear wheel steering system with a 10-degree capacity.

The Hummer EV also has a mode called Extract that allows the vehicle to be lifted six inches when overcoming obstacles. Cameras located under the vehicle also allow for close monitoring of the situation.

Off-road wheels of 35 inches (37 in option), air suspension, four-wheel independent suspension, as well as a sophisticated 4x4 system complete the package.

Finally, interestingly enough, the GMC Hummer will benefit from an architecture that must be considered very advanced in the field of electric vehicles. First of all, it will benefit from GM's Ultium battery, a battery that offers several advantages (fewer components, more modular and easier to maintain, in particular). Also, thanks to its 800-volt capacity, it will be possible, on a 350-kW terminal, to recover up to 160 kilometers of autonomy in just 10 minutes.

All in all, this GMC Hummer EV comes with several interesting features and promises to cause a sensation.
